On the popular Indonesian holiday island of Bali, travelers who have been vaccinated at least twice will be able to go on quarantine-free holidays for the first time from March 14th. “Things have been looking better in Bali for a few weeks,” said government pandemic officer Luhut Pandjaitan, referring to falling infection numbers.
Visitors would then only have to do a PCR test upon arrival and could move freely on the island if the result was negative, he said late Sunday evening (local time). Another PCR test is due on the third day. A booster vaccination is not necessary.
Holiday guests still have to show a booster vaccination and three days in hotel quarantine. If the number of infections continues to fall, the quarantine will also be lifted for the rest of the huge island state, it said.
Bali is dependent on the important tourism industry, which has been almost completely on the ground since April 2020. In 2019, more than six million holidaymakers traveled to the island, which is known for its temples, rice fields and beaches.
Indonesia has long been the worst-hit country in the region by the virus. So far, around 5.5 million cases have been registered in the country with 270 million inhabitants. More than 148,000 people died in connection with Covid-19.
